Katharine Gammon is a freelance science writer based in Santa Monica. After graduating from MIT, she worked at ABC News and Wired Magazine before moving to southern California and going freelance in 2008. Since then, she has written features and news for a wide variety of publications, including Esquire, Newsweek, Smithsonian, National Geographic News, Popular Science, LA Magazine and the LA Weekly. Her favorite stories explore boundaries between science, tech, environment and culture. When not chasing down leads on her next feature, she’s chasing her two young sons or hiking in the Santa Monica mountains.
